Hello....
This is the third website About Us page that I have ever written and they don't get any easier so I decided to do some research on what to do and not do when writing this 'really important' web page.
1. Visitors always like to know your name and 'members of your team'.
That's reasonable. My name is Susan and the members of 'my team' are Steve and Lola. We are British ex-pats who came to live in Central Portugal 6 years ago after more than a decade living in South Africa where we ran a safari business. Lola was born in Portugal and is our gorgeous chocolate Labrador.
2.
Visitors like to see smiley, enthusiastic photos of 'the team'.
Hmm, I think we'll skip this one.
3. About Us pages are not actually about you. Visitors want to know what you can do for them.
OK, down to the nitty-gritty. We have a spacious, newly modernised and comfortable apartment to rent which we think will make a perfect home base for house hunters in Central Portugal.
4. About Us pages must have Value Propositions or 'raison d’etre' statements.
Er, in non-web speak English, I think this means I must tell you succinctly what's on offer here and why you should care enough to click to yet another page.
So at risk of repeating myself and boring you...
5.
Remember, visitors have very limited attention spans, not to mention time.
Well.... I wouldn't go quite that far. Limited time, yes. Limited attention span? Not our visitors - I hope!
So with that in mind, I give you my official About Us page summary, in less than 200 characters.
"Experienced former house hunter, house buyer and house restorer who loves living in Central Portugal with an modern apartment to rent and a mine of information for unwary new house hunters."
If you want to know more than that, simply ask

- A very pleasant apartment to rent at a reasonably price, for either short or long term let (with no seasonal variations) in a lovely area of Central Portugal.
